China firmly opposes the U.S. revising its rules to tighten exports of artificial intelligence (AI) chips and chipmaking tools to China, said China's Ministry of Commerce on Sunday.

The modified rules are arbitrary and not only make it harder for Chinese and U.S. companies to carry out normal economic and trade cooperation, but also cause harm to the global semiconductor industry, the ministry said in a statement.
