Death toll surpasses 230 as Helene sweeps over SE U.S.

More than 230 people have been killed from Hurricane Helene since it landed in the southeastern U.S., unleashing devastation across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.

Helene made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region last week as a massive Category 4 hurricane.

It has become the deadliest mainland hurricane since Katrina in 2005.

More than a week after Hurricane Helene landed, about 270,000 electric customers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia are still without electricity, according to the latest data released by the U.S. power tracking website PowerOutage.us on Monday.
