Govt to Limit Prime Minister’s Term to 10 Years — Anwar
SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The government will table a Bill to limit the prime minister’s term of service to no more than 10 years, or two full terms, at the upcoming parliamentary session.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said a Bill related to the separation of powers between the public prosecutor and the attorney general would also be tabled.
“Everyone has a term limit … no one should serve for decades. This applies not only to the chief secretary to the government but to everyone.
“If a term is sufficient to carry out the responsibilities, then it is better to pass the baton to the next generation,” he said in his 2026 New Year Message during the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly.
In his address, Anwar outlined the government’s direction, key initiatives and several major announcements to be implemented throughout the year.
